From No Tech Experience To Remote Software Engineer

Rozy: I don't have any background in tech, I only had two interviews before I got my job. The second interview I had was with the company I'm working for now and I got the offer the next day.

I don't have any background in tech, I used to have my own business that shut down during the pandemic. I was at home with the kids and then I actually spoke with Brijesh and he introduced me to Sabio and he was like "just try out the pre-work and see if you like it," and I liked it and you know, the rest is history.

Q: What was learning remotely like at Sabio?

Rozy: So I was in the seventeen week, I did start with pre-work but I wanted a more guided approach. the seventeen week course kind of helped me get into it. For our project we did, the Institute to Advance Diversity, and I was in charge of the events page. I was always on the queue with CSS stuff. It was hard, I'm not gonna lie, it was a lot of work, but I did commit the twelve hours a day and I was coding. Those were my challenges and I obviously overcame them. Graduating, I finished the program. I also became really good friends with people in my cohort and we would have zoom calls and we'd be discussing stuff back and forth and that also opens up your mind to different ways of thinking, along with Gregorio's videos of course.

Q: How did Sabio help with the job interview process?

Rozy: The mock interview we had helped a lot, it showed me my weaknesses and where I needed to study more. I did the Sabio technique of carpet bombing, so I was just applying blindly, like anything that said remote or Dallas because that's where I live, and then I'm still getting calls back, so it works. I only had two interviews before I got my job, the second interview I had was with the company that I'm working for now. They asked me about being in a bootcamp, I told them how it was challenging and how you had to work through your problems and figure stuff out fairly quickly technical questions on there, and it was a lot of the definitions from the Sabio interview prep that we do and I got the offer the next day. So I'm fully remote, I asked for 75 and they offered me 80.

Q: What advice do you have for current Sabio students?

Rozy: I would say believe in yourself, I would cry during every test, then I would pass it. that means I knew the stuff I just didn't trust my ability to do it.
