Jack Nehme

Instructor, DTLA

What excites Jack most about teaching at Sabio is that the coursework is accessible to anyone.

“You don’t have to have good grades, be an academic or a nerd. You just have to have the willingness and drive right now in your life. Regardless of how your past was, you can just come here and start over. Learn to code.”

Love Of Coding

“I’m still impressed by all the interconnection involved in coding. It hasn’t faded on me. I know for some people it does, but I’m still impressed by the magic.”

“Programming is imperfect because it was constructed by humans and we are imperfect. There’s something nice about that.”

What’s your teaching style?

“If you’re struggling, let me help, I’ve been in your shoes. Here’s how you do it.”

“I want to show people that they can achieve something. Let’s just get to the heart of it. You could sit there and scratch your head all day, or we can figure this out together. ”

Joining Sabio

After graduating from Sabio, Jack utilized all of its alumni resources and kept in touch. It didn’t take long for Sabio’s Co-Founder and CTO Gregorio Rojas to see that Jack was flourishing. He offered Jack a job as a PreWork instructor which he happily accepted.

“Sabio taught me a simple way to do things, but really what they were doing is showing me exactly how to do things in the real world. I talked to other alumni about it and they were like, ‘Yeah, I’m doing exactly what I did at Sabio, but at a job.’ I want to impart that wisdom on the students. I understand that feeling when people think they’re not cut out for this. It really is a constant effort and constant trial and error. But if you’re up for it, you can get through it and succeed.”

From a young age Jack had always been interested in technology. A graduate of Los Angeles Pierce College with a computer science degree, Jack always wanted more from his education. After four years as a business analyst, he found Sabio and jumped in.

In 2016 Jack completed the Sabio program, learning ASP.NET, C#, T-SQL, Javascript, JQuery & AngularJs. It wasn’t long after that he got a job as a Web Developer at Optio where he personally implemented Stripe payment integration. From there he became the Web Application and Services Developer in the Los Angeles Superior Court in late 2016.

At the LA Superior Court he found the workplace exactly like Sabio’s example. He worked as a Front-end developer for three years, using Javascript, HTML & CSS with Angular JS and a variety of other JS libraries. In 2018, he was approached by Gregorio to teach at Sabio’s PreWork in DTLA and Jack jumped at the chance.

Now an instructor, Jack is excited to bring his real-world experience to students from all walks of life.
